How to Get Your Boat Ready for The Season.

How to Get Your Boat Ready for The Season.

Here are a few simple spring check-ups to ensure a safe and uneventful season for you and your family while on the water.

To start, do a general cleaning of hull, deck and topsides using a mild detergent. Check spare parts, tools and replace as necessary.

Next in order to avoid finding someone to tow your vessel to the dock check/recharge batteries. There are several types of battery testers available but be sure to use one for your 12 volt systems.

Equally as important as batteries, your fuel system should be given a quick check to ensure there are no cracked and leaking fuel lines. This affect your fuel system performance and can be extremely dangerous to onboard fires.  Inspect the lines and fittings from the tank connection to the engine connection.

Again, verify your safety equipment. Check your fire extinguisher and distress signals for expiration dates and replace if overdue. Check and adjust compass, navigation lights, radar reflector, life rings, cushions and replace first aid supplies if necessary.

A quick visual inspection of your anchor and docking lines prior to your first season launch can save you from unwanted surprise at the dock or a lost anchor if little critters chewed on your stowed lines during winter storage.

Finally, a quick walk around your trailer for visual inspection of its structural integrity, the bunks or rollers for wear and of course your tires.

Now you're ready for an uninterrupted season.

Happy Boating!
